Gillian Westerman, originally from the small harbor town of Petoskey, MI, has been the Director of Music, Worship & the Arts since June of 2010.  Ms. Westerman helps to plan worship services with Pastor Hankey, is responsible for directing musical groups at WPC, and adding visual and dramatic arts to our worship services.

Gillian was raised in the United Methodist Church where her father was a choir director.  She was extremely involved in music and youth ministries as a child and young adult, and came to accept Christ as her personal Lord and Savior during her freshman year of high school.  She received her Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance from Central Michigan University in 2004.  She went on to complete a Masters of Music with an emphasis in Opera Performance at the University of Tennessee (Knoxville) in 2006.

The music ministry at WPC is large and varied with room for people of all experience levels.  Our Music Team leads our weekly worship in a praise band format, using a variety of instruments and musicians to bring an enlivened and energetic worship experience.  WPC’s music team is for all ages, we have kids, teens and adults helping to lead worship on a regular basis.  Alpha & Omega, our vibrant teen music ministry, leads worship, offers special music, musicals and other artistic endeavors in and out of worship.  We also present kids musicals 1-2 times a year to the glory of God.  Here, we feature our younger kids in worship with acting, singing and costumes.

Several times a year, to accent the service theme or scripture lesson, we employ dramatic readings, reader’s theater, videos, or skits to present scripture.  Visual arts, such as paraments, banners, artistic slides, and liturgical decorations also add to our worship experiences.

Westminster also loves to host concerts.  A vital part of our music ministry is to offer a variety of concerts each year.  Whether it’s a Broadway review to fundraise for the High School Choral program, a professional Men’s Ensemble from St. Petersburg Russia or a Contemporary Guitarist with a Christian ministry on his heart we like to offer opportunities for people outside of worship to experience great music and a loving community.

Gillian volunteers with the choir programs at Anacortes High School and teaches 30+ private voice and piano students each week.  In her spare time she enjoys performing, long distance running, traveling, learning foreign languages, practicing piano, learning guitar and, going to the opera.
