Pastoral Message
 Dear Ones,

It's Christmas Eve! My prayer for each of you is that you experience the miracle of the Christ Child's birth in a new way in your life. May he find room in the inn of your heart today and every day.

Tonight at 5:30 we'll be live-streaming our Christmas Eve Service from the sanctuary. This service will include celebration of the Lord's Supper (gather your elements), carols, a Time for Children, Special Music, and the WPC organ. The sanctuary will not be open for in-person attendance.

At 7 pm we will have a short Candles & Carols at Causland Park Service. We'll practice social distancing and mask wearing. Bring a flashlight so you can see your footing and the song lyrics. Be sure to get a candle and lyrics from one of our ushers. And Sarah will have a gift for families with kids, so make sure you stop by to see her. Please dress for the weather. Bring your own hot cocoa.  You are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items that will be delivered and donated to the Salvation Army Foodbank.

In peace,
Pastor Stephanie

Here are a few topical updates for you with the *newest ones at the top...

*Meal Train Providers Needed for Elo Family
The WPC Deacons are activating the Meal Train for the Elo family.  It looks like Jean will be coming home soon and Kerstin and Eric will be moving in with her to help her in her recovery.  WPC will start providing meals for the Elo family on December 27.  It will be a no-contact drop off.  Please no calls or visits at the family's request.  To sign up to deliver a meal, please contact Margaret Campbell

Update from Session RE: Worship in January
At their December meeting, the WPC Session voted to continue with live-streamed worship only (no in-person) through the month of January. They will continue to monitor the state, presbytery, and county guidance again in January for building usage in future months. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

*Update From Facilities RE: HVAC Work Completed
In June 2020, we discovered that the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall fresh air ventilation systems only provided 7% of the minimum amount of fresh air required to meet health standards. We received bids from 4 HVAC contractors to bring our fresh air ventilation up to standards. Trico Heating (Oak Harbor) was selected and has now completed the extensive work required to fix the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall fresh air ventilation systems. We now meet or exceed fresh air standards. Additionally, Trico installed HVAC virus disinfection units that are proven to kill viruses, including Covid-19 and other pathogens.

During inspection of the Discovery House HVAC system, we discovered several components of the 19 year old system were no longer functioning properly, including part of the fresh air ventilation system. Additionally, it was discovered that one of the furnaces was rusted out and needed to be replaced. Trico Heating has now completed the repair and replacement work in Discovery House, as well as installing the virus disinfection units in the Discovery House HVAC system.

Many thanks to Roger Noar and the Facilities Committee for overseeing this extensive project!

And thanks to the Facilities Team that have been managing several projects (HVAC, Transept Room, Sanctuary lighting, etc.) while the buildings have been closed. Per Capita-A Great Gift at the End of the Year
One of the best parts of being part of a connectional church/denomination is that we can do so much more together than we can do individually. Our Northwest Coast Presbytery has been an incredible resource to us as we have weathered COVID-19. Our per capita giving is what helps to support our local and national church structure, which, in turn, helps to support us. Per Capita for 2020 is $49.75 per member. Your WPC Stewardship Committee and Session would be pleased to receive a separate gift for per capita. It is not too late to send it in. Please be sure to mark the memo line with: Per Capita.

Dear Ones,

It hardly seems possible that the month of December is upon us! We were in the middle of the season of Lent when the pandemic moved our worship to the live-streamed format. And now we're in the season of Advent. As we mark the liturgical year, we are reminded of the church has always celebrated the coming light of Jesus' birth during the darkest time of the year. It's somehow fitting. And it reminds me of the lyrics of Show the Way, a Dave Wilcox song I appreciate:

Look
If someone wrote a play
To just to glorify what's stronger than hate
Would they not arrange the stage
To look as if the hero came too late?
He's almost in defeat
It's looking like the evil side will win
So on the edge of every seat
From the moment that the whole thing begins

It is love who mixed the mortar
And it's love who stacked these stones
And it's love who made the stage here
Although it looks like we're alone
In this scene, set in shadows,
Like the night is here to stay
There is evil cast around us
But it's love that wrote the play
For in this darkness love can show the way

Advent is the celebration of Love showing the way through the darkness. All praise to God!

In peace,
Pastor Stephanie

*Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday--What's Next?
Friends, in this busy season of Advent, let us never forget that our most important preparations happen in our hearts when we make a way for God to come into our lives-when we "prepare the way of the Lord." As the Advent hymn, People, Look East, reminds us, "Make your house fair as you are able, trim the hearth and set the table." Why? "Love the guest is on the way." As we prepare for Love the guest, we bring our gifts to share so that God's love will shine brightly through the ministry of this church and in our own lives as well.  Thank you for your continued faithful giving. Your mailed/dropped off checks, online giving, dropped off envelopes are supporting WPC's ministry. The link for online giving link is HERE.
